Primers are the foundation for your finish coats. They are important and are selected for their various properties such as stain blocking, rust inhibition, alkali resistance, adhesion to specific surfaces, or waterproofing. Do not be fooled by the marketing strategy about paint with primer in it. Although that may be true for certain surfaces or conditions, it doesn't mean it will fulfill the specialty requirements some surfaces demand.
