Rust Inhibitive Paints and Primers
Rust never sleeps. Keeping your steel looking good requires keeping a good barrier coat over it to protect it from moisture that perpetuates the galvanic process. Start by removing rust using wire brushes and impact tools Pretreat the surface with a solution to stabilize the metal. Prime the metal for best results. The pigments help to chemically change moisture should some migrat through the film. Put on a couple of coats of a nice enamel to provide color, and UV protection.2 coats minimum to reduce the likelihood of pinholes that interrupt the barrier properties of your coatings.
One of my favorite rust-inhibitive primer is the MADDOG original primer now called Dura-Prime. 2 coats followed by the paint of your choice. |
